About The Football Association (The FA) and EPL Teams

A little background on the FA, the governing body of English football, and the English Premier League .

The Football Association is the governing body of football in England and was founded in 1863.

The FA governs all professional football clubs, it has an unique place in the history of football as it formulated the rules of the modern game.  All of England’s professional teams are members of the Football Association.

The FA is a member of UEFA and FIFA, and holds a permanent seat on the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

The Premier League is now known as the Barclays Premiership or the EPL and is the highest league in English football. Winning the English Premier League is considered the greatest honour in English football and guarantees qualification for the UEFA Champions League, Europe's elite club competition.

The EPL was formed in 1992 and has been in action for fourteen seasons. The title has been won by only four teams: Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea and Manchester United.

There are twenty clubs in the English Premier League. The season begins in August and ends in May, English Premier league soccer jerseys often change each season, sometimes they change because of advertising for new sponsers or just subtle changes in design.

All away EPL jerseys are different to their home jerseys, so not to get confused if the home team they are playing has the same colour as their's.

Each club plays each other twice, once at home and once at their opponents stadium, for a total of 38 games for each club and a total of 380 games in a EPL season.

Teams receive three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss.

Teams are ranked by total points, then Goal difference and then goals scored. At the end of each season, the club with the most points is crowned as champion.

If the total points are equal the goal difference and goals scored then determines the winner. If still equal, they are deemed to occupy the same position if they are the leaders of the table.

Teams for relegation or qualification for other competitions then cannot be decided, a series of play-off matches are played between the affected teams at neutral venues.

The three lowest placed teams are relegated (sent down) to the next lowest division (The Championship). The top two teams from the Championship, together with the winner of play-offs involving the third to sixth placed Championship clubs, are promoted in their place.

The La Liga 2007/08 season starts August 2007 and finishes June 2008.The winner of La Liga or Primera División also plays off against the Copa del Rey winner for the Supercopa de España.

The top four La Liga teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The top two qualify for the group stage, and the third and fourth-placed teams go to the third qualifying round.

The fifth and sixth placed teams qualify for the UEFA Cup. A third UEFA Cup place is awarded to the Copa del Rey winners, the seventh placed Primera División team, or the Copa del Rey runners up. The Copa del Rey winner automatically gets the UEFA Cup spot, if the team finished in the fifth or sixth La Liga position (hence already qualified for the UEFA Cup), the seventh placed team will qualify for the UEFA Cup, while if the Copa del Rey winner ends Primera División amongst the top four placed, the extra UEFA Cup spot goes to the Copa del Rey runners up.

The last three placed teams are relegated to the Segunda Division A, and replaced by the top three placed Segunda División A teams.
